Hydrostatic splint which can be bent to fit different dental arches for the symptomatic relief with TMD/TMJ
Hydrostatic splints provide excellent assistance when deciding whether or not a particular symptom or problem may have anything to do with occlusion or jaw positioning. Instead of starting with expensive diagnostic procedures, measurements, and high laboratory bills, patients can easily test for themselves if a balancing of the occlusal forces results in a change or improvement of symptoms.
In many if not most CMD cases, the wearing of such a prefabricated water pillow splint presents the best first diagnostic tool, often bringing immediate relief, and giving both patient and dentist a clue about the cause of the often confusing set of symptoms.
-
The AquaSplint mini’s seamless construction means no sharp edges which could irritate the gum or tongue.
-
Seamless means that no seams can break open.
-
Thanks to the integrated steel wire, the AquaSplint mini can be bent to fit your exact occlusal contours, eliminating the need to hold it between your teeth with occlusal pressure which could lead to muscular stress.
-
The AquaSplint mini is simple: one size, one height. Larger jaws carry the splint more in the mandible, smaller jaws in the maxilla.
-
The AquaSplint mini offers a solid bite feeling and is stable in form. Moreover, water is not lost through evaporation, eliminating the need to freeze for long term storage.

The AqualSplint mini can be compared in size to the Aqualizer mini. As it rests upon the lower teeth, it is worn further back in the mouth than if it were carried by the upper teeth. The thicker walls of the AquaSplint mini create a more substantial bite feel. If there are no sharp edges on crowns or prosthetic devices the AquaSplint mini may last for months. However, if you especially value the soft mouth feel of the Aqualizer, the AquaSplint may feel too firm. If the Aqualizer medium in the past was almost too high for you, and you did better with Aqualizer low, AquaSplint mini will perhaps feel too high. If the Aqualizer slipped around in your mouth you may enjoy a more stable feel to the AquaSplint mini. Patients with no prior experinece with splints may appreciate the extra detailed description of use as well as the storage box which is delivered with the AquaSplint.
Limitations:
-
Water splints can only help when they are worn between the occlusal surfaces. In cases where molars or posterior teeth are missing, it is possible that you cannot use the AquaSplint mini.
-
The seamless construction prohibits very flat water pillows. If you have had good experience with the fit of the Aqualizer „medium“ or „high“, the AquaSplint mini could also be a good fir for you. If, however, you have been comfortable only with the Aqualizer „low“, it is probable that the AquaSplint would be too high for you.
-
Although the AquaSplint mini is robust and strong, it is still possible to tear the plastic with sharp edges of prosthetics, crowns, etc.
