Special electrode for determining the optimum electrode position for EMS
The point digger has a gold-plated tip which is stroked along the skin to locate the most effective electrode position for the therapy of certain muscles. In this way, the muscle can be stimulated with the lowest possible amplitude for maximum efficient contraction, thus avoiding high current densities, which can also lead to discomfort.
Application of the point electrode:
In EMS devices with asymmetrical pulses the search electrode point electrode is connected as cathode to the blue cable end, the corresponding rubber electrode as counter electrode to the red end. In devices with bipolar symmetric stimulation there is no polarity and one simply connects one plug to the point electrode and the other to the silicone electrode. The patient can simply pick up the electrode in his hand. If the skin of the hand is very dry, some contact gel can be used.
Select a program on your TENS-/EMS unit with 2-20 Hz stimulation frequency with the largest possible pulse width. Place the search electrode on the skin in the area to be examined and set the amplitude of the channel connected to it to an intensity that triggers noticeable muscle twitches (approx. 2 - 6 mA). Now glide the point electrode over the skin and search for the point where the greatest reaction of the muscle area can be detected. Do not lift off the point, because many devices switch off the stimulation for safety reasons if the contact is interrupted. If the skin is particularly dry, some contact gel can also be used, but this must be carefully removed before the stimulation electrode is applied, so as not to compromise its adhesion to the skin.
Caution: Do not use the point electrode on the ports, the eyes, the carotid sinus (on the neck in front of the sterno-cleido-mastoid muscle) and above the heart!
The point lifter has a 2.0 mm socket without spring as connection. The supplied connection cable has a device plug type 5 for TENS/EMS devices from Pierenkemper (TENStem eco/dental, MYOdent, MUSKELaktiv, EMP4 eco+). At the other end is a banana plug which fits tightly into the socket of the point hoe. Regular 2.0 mm pin plugs of TENS cables sit somewhat loosely in the socket and can slip out. Cables with push-button connection or shielded plugs (plug is surrounded by a plastic cylinder) cannot be connected.
