All devices we offer here have to be able to do more than just TENS for the short-term elimination of pain. They must have the technical parameters that have been particularly proven for over 50 years for the therapy of CMD (TMD/TMJ)! This is about the cause of CMD (TMD/TMJ): the unintentional and permanent tension of the masticatory muscles. The force that compresses the temporomandibular joints and eventually pushes the discus out of the joint space comes from this tension. In addition, trigger points can form in the constantly overstrained masticatory musculature, which transfer pain to other head regions, sometimes even to teeth that are missing nothing.
Of course, these muscle tensions will rebuild if they are necessary to hold the jaw so that the teeth fit together. However, such regeneration phases are a great relief for the affected muscles when they are purified and supplied with new oxygen by stimulating their blood circulation.
More than 50 years ago an American dentist, Dr. Bernard Jankelson, introduced myocentrics, for the preparation of which the masticatory musculature was relaxed with a TENS modality that is still largely unknown - at least outside dentistry. It produces actual movements in the muscle, but as gently as possible. Each movement is only a small twitch, followed by a comparatively long regeneration break. This requires a low stimulation frequency and a large pulse width, both parameters in areas that most TENS devices cannot handle. We find suitable devices for you and offer them in our TENS shop at a reasonable price, together with electrodes and accessories that fit! After ordering a device, we will send you a step-by-step guide so that you can easily make the appropriate settings yourself without any technical knowledge.
The amazing efficiency of this therapy can be seen in the comparison between two electromyographic measurements. Two blue columns are assigned to each muscle measured. The left one (below which there is a "9") shows the mean resting voltage in this muscle over a period of 20 seconds. After the TENS therapy, the measurement was repeated and the mean value of the resting voltage can be seen in the right column with the "10" below it.

It is interesting to see how muscles in the neck have also relaxed here, although there was no therapy at all! CMD (TMD/TMJ) patients know this phenomenon with neck tension only too well...
